About Health First

Health First is Central Florida's only fully integrated health system. With a mission to positively change the health and wellness of the communities we serve, Health First offers the latest technological advances and quality care at our four hospitals and through our many Outpatient & Wellness Services, as well as the area's only Trauma and Heart Centers. Health First also offers multiple commercial and Medicare health plans, the largest multi-specialty physician group in Brevard County, and four fitness centers to help members of our community stay healthy.

About Health First Health Plans

Health First Health Plans has grown to be Brevard's largest commercial health insurer. Milestones include:

  • December 1995: Received Certificate of Authority from Florida Department of Insurance.
  • January 1996: First commercial members enrolled.
  • April 1997: Received Medicare+Choice contract.
  • 1998: Received NCQA "New Plan" accreditation.
  • 2000 and 2003: Received NCQA "Commendable" accreditation.
  • 2004: Implemented direct access – PCP referrals to network specialists no longer required.
  • 2004: Introduced high-deductible health plans compatible with Health Savings Accounts.
  • 2005: Introduced Care Level Management physician home visit program for medically-fragile homebound senior members.
  • 2006: Introduced online wellness program.
  • 2006: Achieved "Excellent" accreditation status, the highest available from NCQA.
  • 2007: Began including Pro-Health & Fitness Center memberships as a covered benefit for small group subscribers.
  • 2008: Began including Pro-Health & Fitness Center memberships as a covered benefit for all group members.
  • 2008: Call Center recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for providing "An Outstanding Customer Service Experience."*
  • 2009: Achieved "Excellent" accreditation status, the highest available from NCQA.
  • 2009: Named in Florida Trend business magazine as One of Florida‚??s Best Companies To Work For.
  • 2009: Call Center recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for providing "An Outstanding Customer Service Experience."*
  • 2010: Call Center recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for providing "An Outstanding Customer Service Experience."*
  • 2010: Earned 4.5 out of 5 stars from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for Overall Plan Rating. Only one other plan in Florida ranked higher.
  • 2011: Call Center recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for providing "An Outstanding Customer Service Experience."*
  • 2011: MA-PD plans earned 4.5 out of 5 stars from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Nationwide, nine plans earned 5 stars, and 46 plans earned 4.5 stars in the Overall MA-PD Summary. In Florida, HFHP was one of only two health plans to earn 4.5 stars, and all others earned 4 stars or less.
  • 2011-12: MA-PD plans ranked #2 in Florida and #22 in the nation according to NCQA‚??s Medicare Health Insurance Plan Rankings, 2011-2012
  • 2011-12: Group plans ranked #2 in Florida and #117 out of 390 plans according to NCQA's Private Health Insurance Plan Rankings, 2011-2012.
  • 2012: Introduced stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDP), available throughout the state of Florida.
  • 2012: Expanded service area for commercial plans and Medicare Advantage to include all of Indian River County.
  • 2012: Achieved "Excellent" three-year accreditation status, the highest available from NCQA.
  • 2012: Opened new office in Vero Beach to serve Indian River County.
